A Face For Television

I present to you… Scout’s TV watching face.

Glossy-eyed. Motionless. Deaf to the world.

For all of my gloating about being such an AWESOME stay-at-home-mom, we have our fair share of lazy days too…. the ones where Scout watches far more TV than I would publicly admit and I’m still in my PJs when it comes time to pick up Mr. D.

I used to be one of those moms who turned my nose up at TV. “I will never…” Famous last words, eh?

It’s not like he’s watching the same crap-for-kids’-programing I grew up with in the 80s… or worse, the drug-induced sugar-soaked romps Mr. D watched in the 70s.

One word… “H.R.Pufnstuf“. The name alone, people. (This show was eventually taken off the air because of the “smoking mushroom forest”. Hmm…)

In the past year, I’ve witnessed Scout’s vocabulary explode and imagination expand. It probably would have happened regardless, but it’s just so delightful to hear him declare things like “Fortissimo!” (“Little Einsteins“) or “I know how to fix it. I have a plan, Mommy!” (“Calliou“), or describe situations that he and I would otherwise never encounter.

Chances are I will never take him on safari, much less rescue a baby jaguar, but Diego

Diego will, and all while I take a nap throw together supper!

That’s my rationalization and I’m sticking to it.

  1. heehee…I rationalized my allowance of TV after I said, “I’ll never…” too! And my kids get that same glassy eyed look…but with a little drool on the chin usually.
