A Father’s Day At the Races

This past Sunday, the three of us celebrated Father’s Day and the first day of summer at the races…The Silicon Valley Duck Race!

15,000 rubber duckies were released into Vasona Creek to benefit some great local charities and for the chance to win $1,000,000 and other prizes.

The main race was started by Steve Wozniak of “Dancing with the Stars” fame. He also founded some silly fruit company.

Heh! Wonder what every became of that?

He actually waded into the water, which makes this the closest I’ve ever been in proximity to a celebrity. (“Celebrity” = photographed in US Weekly) To my knowledge, that is. I’m pretty clueless when it comes to recognizing people, but here he is.

They like duck races. JUST LIKE US!

I’m dismayed to report that our duck was NOT a winner.

In fact, I suspect it was one of the gimpy ones that got stuck on the rocks along the way. LAME!

Ah, well! It was still a great day… even if it doesn’t compare to how we observed last year’s Summer Solstice.

This same day last year, Mr. D and I were on the Greek island of Santorini enjoying the crystal blue waters and celebrating my best friend’s wedding….

  1. We have a rubber duck race here in Cincinnati. It’s so much fun. Very cool about Woz. I think he’d be hilarious to chat with – I mean he did date Kathy Griffin!

  2. Look at all the ducks! I think we have one of those around here, somewhere, too but I always miss it.

  3. Wow…the duck race is cool (although definitely not as cool as being on a Greek isle…not much is cooler than that though!)
