Partially running away from the mess following a very raucous first birthday party. Partially embracing the moment.
We capped off Lou’s birthday weekend with a spontaneous Sunday afternoon road trip to the beach at Santa Cruz. An ill-planned road trip to Santa Cruz, I should say…
We spent the better part of an hour driving around in search of parking.
(Note to self: Carpe Diem, but in the AM next time. And pack extra pants. Sand is very chaffing. Ahem…)
What better way to celebrate a first birthday than to point my daughter’s gaze towards the Pacific Ocean for the very first time and tell her about the whole wide world just waiting to be explored.
To let her sink her chubby baby toes into wet sand and experience the thrill of yelling at the waves, “You can’t catch me”, only to hold on tight to one another and giggle when they do.
Both of my children found the whole wide world (and the ocean) to be a very COLD and frustrating place… I cannot say that they are wrong.

What a fun, spontaneous trip!
Glad to have found a fellow Bay Area blogger! I just moved to the East Bay from SF.
What a great way to start off your little girl’s 2nd year! Lovely photos.
amen to the extra pants…but it looks like you all had fun!
