The nesting is in full swing around here… except I can’t be bothered to do anything practical like buying a changing pad for the top of dresser… or, heck, clean off the top of her dresser.
Instead, I stay up until the wee hours of the night making a nursing cover, step-by-step instructions courtesy of Bliss Tree. Another great project for a newbie, the *free* pattern can be found here.
The link was sent to me by a fellow crafty wannabe… along with a heads up about a sale at a fabulous quilting/fabric store in the area. (Nerd alert) I could have spent ALL DAY there…
They had so much to choose from that I decided to include a pretty back and a border to the pattern.
It adds an additional two inches all around on the finish product, but I figure the bigger the better! As squirmy as baby girl has been in my tummy, I’m sure she’ll be even more so once she’s out…
You can’t really tell in the photos, but there’s boning in the neck opening like other covers. It was a bit tricky to sew in. I ended up stitching a narrow, little pocket to hold it in place.
The instructions suggest sewing baby washcloths to the back for easy clean ups or adding hidden pockets for extra nursing pads.
I bought extra fabric and buttons to make a pocket for the front so I’d have someplace to put my iPod. (Priorities, people!) Then forgot all about it until AFTER I finished stitching everything together… Oh well.
That’s super cute.
If I could operate a sewing machine, I would totally do it. Instead, my friend and her mom make them and they made me one.
And, yes, the bigger the better!
