{Review} Sony CyberShot TX20 Goes on Summer Vacation

This summer, we traded the coast for the country club, mountains in the distance for Texas thunderstorms, and 75 at the highest for “surface of the sun”. Yes, we moved back “home” to Dallas-Fort Worth this summer. We haven’t had much of a proper summer vacation, but we’ve still managed to find some fun things to do and explore.

Add to that a sweet new camera and I am ALL over capturing our summer fun, wherever it may be!

As part of my new partnership with Sony, I was given a Sony Cyber-Shot TX20, the ULTIMATE in vacation cameras for families. It’s waterproof, dust-proof, tiny, and stylish, but still takes GORGEOUS photos and captures full HD videos. It’s small enough to carry in my pocket, so it’s usually in my bag and ready to shoot!

It does equally as well with bright light and low-light situations. All of these photos were shot in the Intelligent Auto setting:

The TX20 has some other very cool features built into the camera.

Foodies and bloggers be aware. It has a Gourmet Mode for food photography. We all know a blogger can’t eat a meal without photographing it first. (Times 20 if in a group of 2 or more.)

Another blogger favorite is… SOFT SKIN mode, which recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot. Look, it’s all like a trip to the spa, no? If only it could remove double chins… Hmm?

No wrinkles and/or pimples! Yay Soft Skin.

The TX20 also comes with seven different picture effects: HDR Painting, Richtone Monochrome, Miniature, Toy Camera, Pop Color, Partial Color, and Soft High-Key. Each one heightens the mood and adds an extra pop to your shots. It’s kind of like having an Instagram filter added to your pics as you take them.

The real test, and probably the most terrifying for me to try, was the underwater one. I was told that the TX20 could be completely submerged. My broke my first camera doing that. Granted, I was a toddler, it was 1980-something, and it wasn’t a Sony, but still… I have bad memories all the same.

So here goes in 3…2…

Ready?

Okay! Go!

*Splash* into the pool!

And now, here I am on the business end of a “max liquidator”:

*Whoosh!*

And, THAT is what I did on my summer vacation!

*********

All photos were taken with the TX20 with little to no editing beyond cropping and re-sizing. The photos you see here are the ones shot directly from the camera. I like to think I have a good eye, but I’m certainly not a professional photographer. So that says A LOT for the amount of weight the camera is carrying to make me look good.

Here the fancy specs for all of my fellow tech nerds. (Love you.)

  1. That camera sounds amazing and the photos prove the awesome! I love the necklace you’re wearing in the Soft Skin photo and of course your kids are adorable, regardless of what camera you use to capture their cuteness!

  2. I LOVE THIS CAMERA. Seriously. Even my husband agreed it’s his new favorite. And he’s tough. I can’t wait to put my vacation post together documenting our trip with all the amazing images I’m getting.

Love all your pics, too, Grace!
