Cold, Fizzy Lime-flavored Nostagia

I bought a pint of sherbet earlier this week and have been snacking on it every night since.

“Naturally low fat” and “High in Vitamin C” the container says, but that’s not what I dig most about it. I love that it brings me back to childhood.

Half a gallon of Blue Bell Lime Sherbet mixed with a liter of 7-up in a punch bowl, and you’ve got a birthday party staple of my unspoiled youth.

It’s makes me sad that my children will probably never experience this joy as long as we continue living here.

(Never mind that you can’t even buy Blue Bell in California….)

Can you only imagine how well that would go over at a kids party?

“Eww. You give your kids soda?”

“No. I gave YOUR kids soda. Next, I’m going to feed them hot dogs and cupcakes from a box. Hehe”

  1. Mmmm, the lime punch. I always really liked orange sherbet. And I totally craved those orange pushup popsicles when I was pregnant. They, too, reminded me of my youth.

  2. I remember this punch. It was a perennial at church socials and southern weddings. I can get Blue Bell ice cream in Florida. I may be to make a nostalgia run today.

  4. hehe…when I was reading this, all I could think about is how in college we would make the same thing, only adding a little (ok a lot!) of vodka and call it hunch punch! lol. And I give my kids hot dogs and cupcakes too. Honestly, though, I think the kids who are so deprived and never get that are the ones who are going to go ape over it later on. It’s all about teaching moderation and self-control.

Oh, and I give my kids hot dogs and cupcakes, too. I agree with Emily, it is all about moderation.

My Grammie served a lot of the lime sherbet/ ginger ale punch at family gatherings. At the age of 96, she passed away last Sunday. After her funeral, I made the lime sherbet punch and served it to the family along with BBQ. Lime sherbet punch = Good family memories.
